Chong Pang's New Chapter
The name Chong Pang comes from Lim Chong Pang (1904-1956), a businessman and Singapore Rural Board member whose father was the rubber tycoon Lim Nee Soon. Lim Chong Pang leased plots of land cheaply in what was then known as Westhill Estate, a kampung area in northern Singapore. After his death in 1956 the village was renamed in his honour, and the Chong Pang neighbourhood grew around it.
The Chong Pang City neighbourhood centre was where residents went for hawker food, wet market shopping and everyday errands. It ran for over 40 years. By the 2020s, the buildings were ageing and due for replacement.
The new "Chill @ Chong Pang" integrated development replaces the old centre entirely. It brings together a hawker centre (58 stalls), wet market (123 stalls), community club, commercial spaces, and for the first time, a swimming complex with an indoor Olympic pool. The development has also been designed to meet Platinum Super Low Energy standards under BCA Green Mark 2021, making it the first new government integrated development to earn that certification with four badges.
